Decide whether to check one customer phone list across WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber. Compare incremental coverage, overlap, customer preferences and the conversations your team can support.

You have a customer phone list and plan to check WhatsApp registration. Should you check the same numbers on Telegram and Viber too? Not automatically. An additional check is useful when it supports a communication channel your customers want and your team can actually manage. If WhatsApp is your only staffed channel, starting with that registration check makes its value easier to assess.

The decision changes when customers have asked to continue on Telegram or a local partner already handles inquiries on Viber. Cross-platform number screening can then help review an existing list for a specific purpose. The question is what you will do with the additional results—not how many platforms a tool supports.

Three positive results still do not mean three customers

A person can use several messaging apps. When one number returns registered results on WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber, it remains one number record, not three new leads. Equally, someone may register different apps with different numbers. Checking one phone number cannot reconstruct that person’s entire set of social accounts.

Consider an illustrative list of 1,000 deduplicated, lawfully obtained customer numbers. Suppose 600 return a registered WhatsApp result and 350 return a registered Telegram result. Of the Telegram numbers, 250 also appear in the WhatsApp group. These are hypothetical figures for explaining the calculation, not AppShai test results.

The combined coverage is 600 + 350 − 250 = 700 distinct numbers, not 950. Telegram adds 100 numbers beyond WhatsApp. A subsequent Viber check should be assessed against the combined WhatsApp–Telegram group, rather than by looking only at Viber’s own registration count.

Those 100 extra numbers are not automatically 100 contactable customers or 100 inquiries. You still need to establish the customer-number relationship, whether the details remain usable, whether Telegram is welcome and whether your team can handle the conversation.

Before buying another check, ask who will answer

If sales staff only monitor WhatsApp, a positive Telegram result does not create a timely response. Another channel needs someone to notice inquiries, continue quotations and keep track of what has already been discussed. An unattended account can add missed conversations rather than opportunities.

Look back at actual conversations. Have customers requested another app? Has a genuine order stalled because the existing channel was inconvenient? Can your team explain the offer in the customer’s language on the new channel? Concrete answers make the additional check easier to turn into a useful decision.

If a customer chose WhatsApp for a quotation, discovering that they also have Telegram is not a reason to repeat the pitch there. Telegram’s Spam FAQ specifically advises contacting people only when they expect your messages. An account’s existence is not an invitation to send a business message.[1]

The right choice depends on how the list was created

The customer has already chosen a channel

For customers already speaking with you on WhatsApp, address the needs in that conversation first. If the task is simply to review WhatsApp registration, choose the relevant option on the AppShai WhatsApp Number Checker. There is no need to check every other app just to fill more columns.

The current WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy requires conditions including the provision of contact details and permission to receive subsequent messages or calls. It also requires businesses to respect requests to stop contact.[2] A registration result does not replace those permissions.

There is a real request for an alternative

If existing customers have asked to use Telegram, a Telegram registration check may help review the relevant numbers. Its purpose is to support a known need—not to prove Telegram is universally better than WhatsApp.

The same reasoning applies to a Viber number check: customers or partners use it, and someone on your team is ready to respond. Viber describes Business Messages as a way to communicate one-to-one with an existing opt-in customer base.[3] Registration screening and enterprise messaging are separate services; a positive check does not provide sending permission or an official business account.

You have numbers but no conversation context

If you cannot explain why someone provided their number, what they need or whether follow-up is permitted, checking three apps will not supply the missing context. Verify the source and business relationship before purchasing more activity, profile or demographic fields.

For your own inquiries or business registrations where channel preferences were not recorded, offer customers a way to choose, or ask through an appropriate existing contact route. “Not registered on WhatsApp, registered on Telegram” does not mean “wants marketing on Telegram.”

Compare the extra cost with the extra useful conversations

Keep two assessments separate. At the checking stage, measure the additional distinct numbers covered and the checking cost per additional number. At the business stage, assess meaningful conversations generated through permitted follow-up. Registration coverage alone cannot answer the second question.

A platform with a large registration count but heavy WhatsApp overlap might be a useful customer-selected backup without justifying repeated checks of the entire database. A smaller set of additional numbers may matter more if it contains customers with an existing need your team can serve.

Start with a group relevant to the planned work. Do not select only your newest, happiest customers and assume their results describe an old database. Keep country, source and timing differences visible so that disappointing results can be interpreted rather than blamed automatically on the platform.

When trying AppShai, choose the platform you are ready to support and the registration task that answers your question. The manual workflow uses a TXT number file and exports the selected task’s results to Excel. Treat each platform’s task separately: one app’s registration or activity result does not describe another app, and blank, failed or uncertain results should not silently become “not registered.”

“We are checking Telegram to assess an alternative requested by this customer group” is a decision you can evaluate. If the reason is only “everyone else checks several apps,” doing one platform well is a reasonable place to stop.
